2010 Officer of the Year:

The Ogden Noon Exchange Club honored Lieutenant Kevin Burns of the Weber County Sheriff's Department as its “Officer of the Year” during its regular meeting on September 27, 2010.
Kevin was born in Salt Lake City and spend the majority of his youth in the Clearfield/Sunset area. Kevin spent a short period living in the panhandle of Florida during his middle school years. He married his high school sweetheart (DeAnn Vigil) in 1984 and together they have raised two wonderful children, Ashley (25) and Tyler (19).Kevin attended the Utah Police Academy at Weber State in 1988/1989. Kevin was a reserve officer with the South Ogden Police Department while he attended the academy. He then became a full time officer with the North Ogden Police Department in October of 1989. While at the North Ogden Police Department Kevin spent his time assigned as a patrol officer. Kevin was with North Ogden until June of 1991, when he was hired at the Weber County Sheriff’s Office. While at the Sheriff’s Office Kevin has served as a patrol deputy, DARE Officer, school resource officer, Civil deputy, bailiff, patrol sergeant and patrol lieutenant. Kevin spent ten years attached to the Ogden Metro SWAT Team with three of those years in a leadership position. Kevin taught an executive level response to weapons of mass destruction class for the National Sheriff’s Association. Kevin is a certified Incident Command instructor for the Sheriff’s Office. Kevin has worked with the Utah Council for Crime Prevention in the planning of their annual Critical Issues Conference.
Kevin participates in a number of outdoor activities and enjoys his early morning (0500) gym time. Kevin ran five full marathons and when his knees and ankles cried uncle he turned to volunteering with events planning. Kevin sits as a board member with the Get Out And Live (Greater Ogden Athletic Legacy) Foundation (GOAL Foundation). Kevin’s volunteer work keeps him heavily involved with a number of major athletic/recreational events in the Ogden area. Kevin was an assistant basketball coach at Snow Crest Junior High School.
Kevin has spent five of the last six years assigned as the precinct commander for the Washington Terrace Precinct of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office where he has worked closely with the city leaders of two cities (Washington Terrace and Uintah).
